While Shanghai is not the traditional arena in which you would expect
to find a thriving counterculture, the past year has unexpectedly
produced an increasing number of alternative events as exciting and
raw as you may find anywhere. Bands from across the nation, as well as
from numerous other countries have passed through the city, whipping
up a storm alongside local music producers and recording artists. From
a state of near stagnation, the city now may seem caught up in a
cultural regeneration.

Yet, no matter how much energy is spent, the city seems just as eager
to forget as it is to welcome. As it relentless rushes into the
future, the city seems determined not to leave any stone unturned.
Now, just as many of those who have put so much effort into channeling
this flow may be leaving, 'Shanghai Soundbites' brings together some
of the dynamic live moments of the past year as photographed by Timote
Franco, attempting to impress them into our memory before they are
swept away by the city's appetite for disposable novelties.
Shanghai soundbites is a self-published effort by Tim Franco (photos)
and Gianpaolo Lupori (text), hopefully a first in a series of
multimedia investigations of Shanghai culture. you are most welcome to
participate in the book-launch that will take place this weekend.
alongside the book you can expect to find great company, music and
drinks.
